(effective 3 March 2020 until the end of the session)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>For immediate release:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>February 24, 2020<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Panel to Address the Link Between Peace and Human Rights on the Korean\nPeninsula<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in the\nDPRK will be among the speakers<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Geneva,\nSwitzerland<\/em>\u2014As the unresolved\nKorean War enters its 70th year, a panel discussion will explore the connection\nbetween peace and human rights, the impact of sanctions on human rights, and\nthe role of women peacebuilders in resolving the crisis on the Korean\nPeninsula. Tom\u00e1s Ojea Quintana, UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human\nrights in the Democratic People\u2019s Republic of Korea (DPRK), will be among the\nspeakers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/koreapeacenow.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/HRC-Flyer.jpg\">Peace on the Korean Peninsula as a Human Rights Issue: War, Sanctions, and Women Peacebuilders<\/a>,\u201d a side event to the 43rd session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, will also include several co-authors of the Oct. 2019 report <a href=\"https:\/\/koreapeacenow.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/human-costs-and-gendered-impact-of-sanctions-on-north-korea.pdf\"><em>The Human Costs and Gendered Impact of Sanctions on North Korea<\/em><\/a>, the first comprehensive assessment of the adverse consequences of sanctions for ordinary North Koreans. The panel is being organized by the global campaign <a href=\"https:\/\/koreapeacenow.org\/\">Korea Peace Now!
