Originally launched as a global campaign in March 2019 by four women\u2019s peace groups \u2014 Women Cross DMZ, the Nobel Women\u2019s Initiative, Women\u2019s International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF), and the Korean Women\u2019s Movement for Peace \u2014 Korea Peace Now! is now primarily a U.S.-based movement for peace in Korea led by Women Cross DMZ.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p>Recognizing that the United States is the greatest obstacle to advancing a peace agreement, and therefore a U.S.-based grassroots peace movement was necessary to build the political will,\u00a0 the core campaign members launched the Korea Peace Now! Grassroots Network in 2019 to advocate for\u00a0 a peace agreement in the United States. We now have hundreds of members across the country, including in Atlanta, the Pacific Northwest, Honolulu, Los Angeles, the San Francisco Bay Area, Texas, Chicago, Boston, New York, Philadelphia, and Washington, DC. Our members include multigenerational Korean Americans, humanitarian workers, faith leaders, anti-war activists, veterans, community organizers, and peace supporters working together to advocate for a formal end to the 73-year-old Korean War.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p>Our strategy:<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li><b>Advocacy: <\/b>We advocate for Korea peace legislation in Congress to build the political will for a peace agreement.<\/li>\r\n<li><b>Education: <\/b>We educate policymakers and the U.S. public about the urgent need to end the Korean War and for Washington to adopt a peace-first approach.<\/li>\r\n<li><b>Narrative change:<\/b> We aim to change the narrative of the so-called \u201cForgotten War\u201d by amplifying stories that highlight the human impacts of the ongoing war in the media and other forums.<\/li>\r\n<li><b>Organizing<\/b>: We grow and strengthen the U.S.-based movement calling for peace in Korea by mobilizing Korean Americans, anti-war\/peace activists and progressives, college students, and allied organizations and by supporting the next generation of Korea peace leaders.\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<li><b>Coalition Building:<\/b> We build coalitions with other social movements to democratize U.S. foreign policy and help us realize our vision of a world free from militarism and war.<\/li>\r\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>We envision <b><i>a world where everyone can flourish in an environment of peace, hope, dignity, and collective well-being<\/i><\/b>. We are preparing for an exciting new phase of growth defined by an intergenerational, intersectional, multi-disciplinary Korea peace movement to power our mission: <b><i>to mobilize collective action grounded in intersectional feminism to end the Korean War; democratize U.S. foreign policy; and contribute to lasting peace across the Asia-Pacific region and the world<\/i><\/b>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p>We aim to achieve the following goals:\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<ol>\r\n<li>Peace-building process including a formal ending of the Korean War, a Korea peace agreement, and normalized relations.<\/li>\r\n<li>Tangible de-militarization including denuclearization, ceasing military exercises and testing of missiles and nuclear weapons, removal of landmines, and reduction of arms, bases, troops.<\/li>\r\n<li>Redefine security away from \u201cnational security\u201d based on a military-first approach towards achieving security grounded in a feminist understanding of security centered on basic human needs and ecological sustainability.<\/li>\r\n<li>Feminist leadership and gender-based analysis (government and civil society) in peace processes.<\/li>\r\n<li>Lift broad-based sanctions against North Korea, especially those impacting humanitarian conditions.<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<div class=\"organizations p-3 p-lg-5\" style=\"text-align: left;\">\r\n<div class=\"row\">\r\n<div class=\"col-12 col-lg-6\">\r\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-17\" src=\"https:\/\/koreapeacenow.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/logo-women-cross-dmz.png\" alt=\"Women Cross DMZ\" \/><\/figure>\r\n<p><strong>Women Cross DMZ<\/strong> is a global movement of women mobilizing to end the Korean War, reunite families, and ensure women\u2019s leadership in peace-building through education, advocacy and organizing. In 2015, on the 70th anniversary of Korea\u2019s division, Women Cross DMZ led thirty women peacemakers from 15 countries on a women\u2019s peace walk with 10,000 Korean women and a historic crossing of the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) from North to South Korea.<\/p>\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link btn-secondary\" href=\"https:\/\/womencrossdmz.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Learn More<br \/><\/a><\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<div class=\"col-12 col-lg-6\">\r\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-22\" src=\"https:\/\/koreapeacenow.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/logo-womens-international-league-for-peace-freedom.png\" alt=\"Women's International League for Freedom &amp; Peace\" \/><\/figure>\r\n<p>Established in 1915, <strong>Women\u2019s International League for Peace and Freedom<\/strong> (WILPF) brings together women from around the world who are united in working for peace by non-violent means. Its main goals are to redefine security, leverage feminist perspectives on peace, and promote socioeconomic justice.
